Organic Food Infographic

I came across this infographic today and thought you all might find it interesting too.

Here are the facts I found most interesting and encouraging:

  • The organic industry is creating jobs at 4 times the national average.
  • 40 percent of the organic market is fruits and vegetables.
  • 4.6 million acres of farmland in the U.S. are organic.

Facts like this encourage me to get involved with natural food systems as a career, not just a hobby. What’s most interesting to you? Anything to add to this?

  1. People eating healthier and looking for non-industrialized food alternatives (particularly organic) has moved past a “fad” and into the trend stage. Although most of the people of America don’t have a clue about what they are eating and what the USDA and FDA say in “safe”, they unfortunately don’t understand that they have compromised long term health for short term food safety. And because of technology’s march forward, we will only see more additives and sanitizing processes that will be approved as acceptable within the industrialized/highly processed food industry. Just makes you want to grow your own, doesn’t it?

    • Unless you know who grew it, where it came from and what it went though, growing your own food is really the only option! The organic movement is definitely a step in the right direction though.
