It’s interesting to see how creative farmers can get with the materials they have to fix problems in the field. Most of the time, it doesn’t take anything fancy or meticulous, just whatever gets the job done.
This weekend I visited Living Earth Farm, and Sharon Blick, the owner, shared a few of these tips and tricks.
One of her creative solutions had to do with growing fig trees. She fills socks with pebbles and hangs them on branches to ensure that they grow outward. If she didn’t do this, they would grow straight to the sky, and it would be much more difficult to reach the fruit when it ripens.
